You need to grow an ego!
You need to grow an ego!
You need to grow an EGO!
The vast majority of comms professionals I talk to, feel very uncomfortable talking about their own achievements. They use their skills to give their clients/employer a voice, and can advocate for other people all day long.
But put a comms person in the spotlight, and it all feels a bit icky. 🤢
I’m sorry to break it to you, but if you’re looking for a promotion, or a new job, you need to grow an ego.
I understand if you’re not ready to create your own content on LinkedIn, but you can demonstrate your expertise by doing this:
🎯 Collect the evidence. Ask for testimonials, look through your old appraisals, dig out positive feedback. Think about how you can present these achievements.
🎯 Make your profile page into your shop window. Dress it with your career highlights. Include your achievements in your ‘about’ section. Make it unique by using your real tone of voice.
🎯 Get involved in relevant conversations by adding a comment that moves the conversation on.
🎯 Fill your CV with your achievements. Be specific. Include metrics, evaluation, stats, ROI.
🎯 Before the interview, practice your elevator pitch. You have the experience, otherwise you wouldn’t be in the room. OWN IT!
🎯 During an interview, use ‘I’ more than ‘we’. The interviewer is interviewing YOU, not your team.
No one else is going to advocate for you. If you don’t share your successes, how will anyone know how bloody amazing you are?
It’s not bragging if you can back it up.
One of the tools I share with clients is a repository for all your achievements, so that you can talk about them confidently in an interview.
